I have a diverse, but strong background in business and entrepreneurship. I started my first company at the age of 19. My martial arts programs are currently taught in more than fifteen countries around the world. I have both in-person students, as well as virtual students who follow my work from all over the world. While I am most known for my work in the world of martial arts, increasingly I find myself coaching and lecturing on the embodiment of success. As such, I have taught an ever expanding audience, from special force military operators, law enforcement and corporate teams on how to achieve inner clarity in peak performance environments.

While I never completed high school, in later years I went back to school. Since that time I completed undergraduate studies in psychology. My masters degree was focused on leading innovation and change, awarded by York St John Universities School of Business. Since 2012 I have been a doctoral student at the University of Leicester’s School of Business. My area of research has been in Mindful-Embodied Leadership, where I have studied the role of mindfulness-in-action as a catalyst to enhance the performance of leadership moments.

Because of my area of research as a PhD student, I have become well versed in the deeper understanding of the embodiment of leadership, and the role mindfulness can play in this regard. As such, I have both written about, and lectured informally and by request on: The Art and Science of Mindfulness, Embodied-Mindful Leadership and Leadership as an Embodied Practice.

In addition, I have authored three books, of which one is now out of print. My other two books, Full Contact Living and Shugyo-Fit are still currently available through Amazon. I have written articles for the Huffington Post, LifeHacks, Success Fastlane, Outlier Magazine and others. I have been interviewed on several shows, including the Conscious Millionaire, FlowState, HardCore MBA, Success Through Failure, Knowledge for Men, Order of Man, F.U. Monkey, Strength Through Struggle and many others.

“There are few people I’ve met in life who have as much passion about helping others as Rodney. He’s a true leader not only in martial arts but in helping people get the most out of life. He cares deeply about getting people results. That’s not easy to find these days. And the best part of everything he does is that what he teaches works!!!”

“I have now worked with Rodney in various capacities—as a mentor, a collaborator, and as a student on the mat, and the more I have the privilege of knowing and being with him, the more I realize how exceptional he is in what he does. He has a natural leadership ability to inspire others to tap into their own capacities and to stretch beyond self-imposed limits. Truly, working with Rodney King you step into what he calls “full contact living.”

Dr. Christian de Quincey – Professor of Philosophy and Consciousness Studies at John F. Kennedy University and award-winning author of books on consciousness and the mind-body connection

“As a positive psychology researcher I am impressed with Rodney King’s intuitive grasp of people’s strengths and hopes. Rather than building a martial art around fear of attack, testosterone-based competition, or external rewards King introduces the best aspects of performance psychology to help people achieve their own goals. In a field steeped in tradition, King artfully reimagines both the dojo and the martial arts business mentality. At long last, we have a perfect union of proven martial arts techniques with cutting edge approaches to teaching and personal development. As a martial artist myself, King’s methods are a breath of fresh air.”

Dr. Robert Biswas-Diener, Philos., CMC – Author of Positive Psychology Coaching & Positive Psychology in Practice

“With the addition of the “mental game”, Rodney King’s martial arts program has elevated itself into another dimension. The mental game takes cutting-edge Behavioral Psychology findings and through easy-to-learn techniques show you how to harness the power of your brain to get even more out of your training program.Through mental game in-the-gym and homework exercises Rodney shows you how to develop a personalized training program based on your unique values and goals. This values-based program teaches you how use
the power of your mind to work with you in your training efforts rather than against you. Rodney King’s program is definitely the ‘thinking man’s” approach to martial arts training. I heartily endorse this program for men at any level of training.”
