Crazy Monkey Defense is my original modern martial arts program, and the system that put me on the map. This program is now taught all over the world.
Crazy Monkey is a striking based program, inspired by my personal experience growing up in one of the toughest cities in the world Johannesburg. Much of Crazy Monkey’s formative development took place during my several years working the doors as a doorman outside nightclubs around Johannesburg.
While Crazy Monkey has its roots in self-preservation, it has evolved into a fully comprehensive modern martial arts experience that balances street readiness, with tools to help our students to take on the martial arts of everyday life more skillfully!
FLOW AS THE WAY
I began my Jiu-Jitsu journey back in 1996. Today I am a 4th degree Black Belt under Rigan Machado.
- Street-Jits: We teach our students how to apply their grappling skills in self-preservation.
- Flow-Jits: We believe the experience on the mat should be one that is playful, while personally challenging each person to discover their true potential. To this end, we integrate the science of flow, and the art of mindfulness on the mat.
- Life-Jits: We believe that in the end, the practice of Jiu-Jitsu is wasted unless it show up in your life in a positive way. As such, our number one goal is to ensure that our students practice of Jiu-Jitsu aids them in showing up in life calm, focused and present.
ALL TERRAIN COMBAT ATHLETICALLY INSPIRED SELF-PRESERVATION TRAINING
Over the years we have had the good fortune to teach defensive tactics to some of the toughest real world warriors, from special force military operators, law enforcement officers, to close protection teams. Much of this work came about from the Crazy Monkey Defense Program.
Due to the ongoing need to provide cutting edge, current defensive tactics to the clients we have been working with – and that we needed specific, time sensitive programs to offer – in 2018 we created the Weaponize-Your-Body (WYB) Program to offer stand alone, specific defensive tactics training.
WYB continues our approach to all our programs, that in order to successfully defend yourself, you require a combat athletic base that allows for the necessary stress testing to ensure what is taught works. WYB then is an integrative model, taking the best self-preservation elements from all our programs, but delivered into an approach that can be taught within a shorter time period. WYB also includes our EDGE and weapon defense modules.
ART OF SELF RELIANCE SHOW
In addition, I explore topics relating to self reliance through the Art of Self Reliance PodClass, where I interview experts in various fields, ranging from neuroscientists, positive psychologists, special force operators to name just a few. The goal of the PodClass is to offer you my listener real world tools and tips you can apply to your own life.
